DATA & PRIVACY

When someone requested help, an automated email was sent to all nearby registered helpers based on the Postal Code with the requester’s contact details.

We made the initial connection, and the helper and requester communicated directly from that point on.

All communications and logistics, including possible money transfers for covering the costs of the supplies, were decided directly between the Helper and the Requester.

The first step towards maintaining privacy: CovidHelper asked only for an email address and Postal/ZIP code. No immediately identifiable information such as Phone Number or exact address was asked.

When a match was detected, potential helpers were sent the email and Postal/ZIP code of the requester and invited them to connect. At this point, communication moved over to the two people involved directly.

We encouraged requesters to speak with potential helpers first and have a line of communication before deciding to share their exact addresses using reasonable discretion when connecting with people via the platform.

CovidHelper does not store any identifiable information such as phone numbers or exact addresses.
